This gift was the hardest to keep secret! I was so excited about it that I was just dying to tell everyone. But, I didn't, and it was worth the wait. Remember this post from last summer when we had to have my old horse put down? Well, before that fateful day, I had cut some of her tail hair for a keepsake. I contacted Giselle Rec of Hairloom Treasures and she made some wonderful bracelets, key chains and zipper pulls from Moonie's tail hair. I kept a bracelet, but gave the other pieces to my family members. They were thrilled and very surprised because they had no idea that I had stashed away some of her hair!! We will treasure these forever, as our last tangible contact with Moonie. I photographed them on an enlargement of a picture that I took way back in 1987...

What a beautiful gift!
Oh, and I just noticed the title, perfect!
Wonderful way to keep the memories. Lovely.
Those gifts from the heart are the ones you treasure! I'm happy for giver and receivers. Continue enjoying your holidays, Crittoria.
Isn't that just a great idea. When we put down my mare last September tne vet made a long braid from her tail and smaller ones from her mane. I thought it was a sweet gesture from the vet. she is a wonderful compassionate vet. Kylee carries the tail braid in her folder at school everyday and now has it in her room by a picture of Ambush.
We have a lot of snow but it probably nothing compared to what you got. MB
It is a sad story in that Moonie is no longer with you. I do know that dogs are hard to get over when they pass and a horse would be hard for me to get past too. I think it is a good idea to keep some of her hair and to use it as you did makes the gifts very special indeed.
The Frog and toad is on Abe's Town.
This is the time we give up something that was an important part of our lives for something new and entirely unknown -- 2009.
Happy New Year to you and to your family from Patty and Abe.
