All Lit Up!

My husband finished putting up the Christmas lights this afternoon - the house looks awesome! I love it when it's all lit up, and will be very sad to take the lights back down in January.

Porch

I love the big porch on the front of this house - perfect for sitting out in the evening & watching the World go by...or at least as much of the World as travels through a small town!

Interesting Roof

I particularly like the way the roof of this charming old farmhouse & barn looks.

The House on the Hill

This house looks out over our valley, and yes, right down into our pasture. Sometimes I wonder if they enjoy sitting out on their deck and watching our horses. I know I would, if I lived up there. The scenery from up there is amazing, looking out over West and South Paris. Someday I'll have to visit and ask to take pictures. The people who live there just moved in last summer, so I haven't met them yet. I thought their house looked very pretty this morning, after all the snow we got yesterday...

Architectural Detail

Does anyone know what these are called? They are on several of the houses in the village and they dress them up so much!

Farmhouse

Here's another example of a typical farmhouse with a connected barn. There aren't any animals living there now, but it looks like it must have been quite a hike out to tend the animals back in the olden days. At least you were inside and protected from the elements...

Pretty House

This is one of the houses in the village that I particularly like - it has some interesting architectural details.

The Deck

It's probably a good thing that this ISN'T my house - I would never want to leave that deck!

This view is for sale!

The house isn't anything to write home about, but if you're in the market for a 'fixer-upper' with some amazing scenery, drop me a line...

No, I'm NOT the realtor! ;-) If you look really closely, you can see Moose Pond amongst all the red trees. This is the same spot that I took yesterday's photo from, but with a wide angle view. This scenery, which always seems to pop out unexpectedly, is why we moved up here 4 years ago. I really love these mountains!!

New England Farmhouse

I love these rambling old farmhouses with the barn attached to the house via the shed. Nowadays they are considered a fire hazard and I've been told that some insurance companies won't cover them. After all, barns are thought to be at high risk for fire, and if the home is connected to it, there's a good chance that it would burn too, in the event of a fire. I grew up in one of these farmhouses though, and personally I think it's worth the risk. It's so much more pleasant to have a shed to walk through on your way to tend the animals during a storm...

Blue House II

I promised you an update on the vines covering the porch on this pretty blue house on Main Street in West Paris. Here it is a few weeks later and the leaves have completely grown in to cover the porch. I'll keep checking on it for you because I'm anxious to find out if there will be flowers later on this summer....

Hidden...

It's hard to imagine how I could have driven/walked past this little gem of a building countless times and never seen it! I just found it the other day and I was thrilled - it's a beautiful building, trimmed in my favorite color. It's tucked in behind a couple of other houses, and partially covered by that gorgeous, big tree, which is how I've missed seeing it before. (I know - lame excuses! If there's one thing that I am really learning by doing this blog, it's to be more observant of my own town!) It appears that it is just being used as a shed now, and I wonder if they built it, or if it's an abandoned old church or meeting house. At least it appears as if someone is taking good care of it. Isn't that chimney interesting looking?

Tomorrow I'll show you what's up on the tippy top...

Blue House

I love the big porch on this house. The railing with the stars is really pretty! I also like the detail on the overhang - sometimes it's the little things that really add a lot....
