January Theme Day: Best Photo of 2008

I found it really hard to choose just one photo! I picked this one because it demonstrates why we moved to this area. We love the scenery!

The House on the Hill

This house looks out over our valley, and yes, right down into our pasture. Sometimes I wonder if they enjoy sitting out on their deck and watching our horses. I know I would, if I lived up there. The scenery from up there is amazing, looking out over West and South Paris. Someday I'll have to visit and ask to take pictures. The people who live there just moved in last summer, so I haven't met them yet. I thought their house looked very pretty this morning, after all the snow we got yesterday...

Looking North at the Pinnacle

Okay, there was something missing from yesterday's photograph. And I didn't even realize it until I walked out the front door this morning and there it was - sunshine! So, I hobbled my way to the other side of the horse pasture, (The doctor says that some walking is good.) and took some pictures of the side of the Pinnacle. Tomorrow I'll show you what else I discovered out there...

'The hills are alive'...with color!

Here I have zoomed in on the hillside across from our house. This is my favorite time of year to live here because of this patchwork of color! This is the same spot where I photographed the sunrise a few weeks ago...

From my front door...

So sorry I missed posting yesterday - I've injured my back, so I'm confined mostly to the couch, with a little bit of walking around the house allowed, as I feel up to it. I was racking my brain, trying to think of something interesting to post, and came up with this idea - repeating my very first post! Compare the view out my front door today, with the view back in February...

Sunset...

Not quite as spectacular as the sunrise, but these clouds were pretty, nonetheless. I took this from my back deck yesterday evening...

The Deck

It's probably a good thing that this ISN'T my house - I would never want to leave that deck!

Bird's Eye View

The birds that eat at this feeder are sitting on some prime real estate. Unfortunately, the feeder is in front of a summer camp up on Ellis Road, so they don't get fed in the winter. I can't imagine it gets very much business during the summer months when there is plenty to eat in the woods?
From this vantage point, we are looking at the Southern part of West Paris...

Layers

I love this shot because of all the different layers...the trees framing it, the woods, the hills and the mountains...I took it just to the left of yesterday's house...simply by turning Tillie around...She was reasonably cooperative, although definitely in "Okay, Mom, we've been out here for hours and I'm ready to go back to my hay now!" mode...

This view is for sale!

The house isn't anything to write home about, but if you're in the market for a 'fixer-upper' with some amazing scenery, drop me a line...

No, I'm NOT the realtor! ;-) If you look really closely, you can see Moose Pond amongst all the red trees. This is the same spot that I took yesterday's photo from, but with a wide angle view. This scenery, which always seems to pop out unexpectedly, is why we moved up here 4 years ago. I really love these mountains!!

Moose Pond from Above

So, yesterday my husband said to me, "Honey, you know we all love Moose Pond, right? But, it's been a week. Don't you think you should post some pictures of something else?" I said, "Fine!", saddled up my horse, packed my camera in a saddle bag and set off to find something else in town to photograph. How's this? Moose Pond from up on Tuelltown Road...hee! hee!

Barn

I love this old barn that you can see from Moose Pond. It has recently had some TLC put into it, which is so nice to see. So many of the old barns are just being allowed to fall in because it costs too much money to maintain them...

Red Canoe

I love the color of my parents' canoe! It really stands out on the water. Look at the gorgeous scenery...wouldn't you like to live in that farmhouse that overlooks the pond?

Mist rising...

They were still catching fish when it started to rain. Before I put the camera back into the waterproof bag, I just had to get a shot of the mist rising off the surrounding hillsides. The boys thought it looked like smoke from a volcano. (I'm glad that it wasn't!) Then, we started paddling for shore - FAST! We ended up getting soaked, but with all 4 of us paddling, we were able to create quite a wake. The boys were laughing hysterically! What an adventure!!

Moose Pond Boat Launch

Now that the boys are so interested in fishing, we are discovering all the great ponds that are nearby. This one is just up the street. I can't believe that some of the foliage is already changing! No! It's too soon!! ;-) Although it sure is pretty...

Last day of summer vacation...

Look at me on my own blog again! My older son wanted to practice using the timer on the camera. Which was just as well since I was holding the horses...and no, they're not really as close to the edge as it looks like they are, although plenty close enough. See how Tillie (big bay horse) is standing all hunched up? She didn't like being there very much! What a good girl to trust me!! What always amazes me, is that every time I ride the horses up there, they spend the first several minutes gazing around - I wonder how much they can take in and what they think of it all...

This is how the boys wanted to spend their last day of summer vacation. We hiked/rode up The Pinnacle, which is near our house. This huge ledge at the top of the mountain provides breathtaking views. We go up there a lot, especially when we have guests because it's a relatively short hike with gorgeous scenery, particularly during fall foliage.
