Free-range hens..

...are happy hens! All of our chickens are free-range, which means that they can roam the farm all day long. At night they go into the coop, where they are safe from predators. Occasionally we have a visit from a day-time predator, like a fox, but having 2 dogs running around loose all the time discourages them. We prefer our eggs to come from happy hens that get to eat grasses, bugs or whatever catches their fancy. The only thing is, you have to watch where you step!

I love all the pictures of the hens. They are lovely and look happy. :)

I have been so busy catching up on work I missed from jury duty last week that I haven't had time to post or comment much. But don't give up on Jackson!

Sorry, Alice. I've been having problems with leaving comments the last few days. Anyway, I went back to yesterday and answered you.

Jim, we have 16 chickens right now. We used to have lots more, but when I started free-ranging them, and there were that many more little 'landmines' to avoid, my family started complaining and I had to cut back. ;-)

My wife only buys free-range eggs. I think they taste better too.

I bet their eggs are delicious! I buy free-range eggs at the grocery, and they are good....but I bet these eggs are so much better! Great photos you've been posting!
