Every day we take the eggs out from under this hen and explain to her that it's much too cold to hatch chicks. And every day she invites her lady-friends to lay more eggs under her, assuring them that she will take good care of them. She will certainly be happy when spring finally rolls around and we let her keep a clutch!

They work hard at it but then they have egg sacks filled with eggs and they all have to be laid. It is a job for hens.
And we really do appreciate their efforts! There is nothing like sitting down to a fried egg sandwich on homemade bread with an egg that you just ran out to the coop to collect! And then during the summer we have chicks running all over the farm playing and catching bugs. It's great entertainment!!
