Volunteer Instruction

The volunteers are being shown how to use the stopwatches to time each race. The photographer is a professional that was hired to cover the event. I wish that I had had the opportunity to talk to him about photography. After we returned home, I checked out his website and this guy is the real deal - National Geographic, Time Life, etc, and a corporate client list as long as my arm! I hope that my photos are even a fraction as good as his must be!!

The Long Climb

Here you can see the Scouts carrying their sleds up to the top of the hill - always the hardest part. On the right is the "track" that was packed down by snowmobiles.

Lots and lots and lots of snow!!

I'm pausing my coverage of the box sled race, to show you a picture that I took this morning of Daisy - plowing her way through snow that is up over her back! We woke up to almost 30 inches of snow!!

Cub Scouts Cardboard Box Sled Race

Here come our boys! (And another Scout) They designed and built this sled themselves, and it ran quite well for them. Unfortunately, during their next run, it flipped over, so they didn't get a good enough time to place in the top 4. Oh well. The important part was to have fun and they had that in spades!! Over the next few days I will be showing you a whole bunch of really creative, and sometimes, really fast sleds that the Scouts built themselves...
